Spherical Harmonic Decomposition of a Sound Field Using Microphones on a Circumferential Contour Around a Non-Spherical Baffle

چکیده
Spherical harmonic (SH) representations of sound fields are usually obtained from microphone arrays with rigid spherical baffles whereby the microphones distributed over entire surface baffle. We present a method that overcomes requirement for baffle to be spherical. Furthermore, can placed along circumferential contour around This greatly reduces required number given spatial resolution compared conventional arrays. Our is based on analytical solution SH decomposition observations equator sphere we presented recently. It incorporates calibration stage in which signals due suitable set projected onto those same notional by means linear filtering operation. Sound Source Localization Using Non-Conformal Surface Sound Field Transformation Based on Spherical Harmonic Wave Decomposition
Spherical microphone arrays have been paid increasing attention for their ability to locate a sound source with arbitrary incident angle in three-dimensional space. Low-frequency sound sources are usually located by using spherical near-field acoustic holography. The reconstruction surface and holography surface are conformal surfaces in the conventional sound field transformation based on gene...
متن کاملSpherical Harmonic Decomposition on a Cubic Grid
A method is described by which a function defined on a cubic grid (as from a finite difference solution of a partial differential equation) can be resolved into spherical harmonic components at some fixed radius. This has applications to the treatment of boundary conditions imposed at radii larger than the size of the grid, following Abrahams, Rezzola, Rupright et al. [1]. In the method describ...
متن کاملSound Localization in a Sound Field Represented by Spherical Harmonics
Sound localization is an important aspect in human hearing, with interaural time difference (ITD) and interaural level difference (ILD) as two binaural cues that complement each other in this goal. Head related transfer functions (HRTFs) can be used to estimate and analyze these cues, where an HRTF representation in the spherical harmonics domain has recently been suggested for analysis. The ai...
متن کاملA 3D sound-space recording system using spherical microphone array with 252ch microphones
We are developing a system to acquire 3D sound-space information that can transmit accurate sound-space information to a distant place using a microphone array on a human-head-sized solid sphere with numerous microphones on its surface. The system comprises an object with numerous microphones called Symmetrical object with ENchased ZIllion microphones (SENZI). Each recorded signal from spatiall...

I consider the use of computational simulations in phonology, and the benefits and dangers of making abstractions, or failing to make abstractions. I argue that the potential of simulation studies is not yet realized as it could be.
